Requirements
- Fit within approved real estate.
- Minimum curve diameter: 10' mainline, 8' yards
- Maximum grade: 4%
- Vertical Clearance: 9" over rails
- Track Centers, straight: 6"
- Independent two-train operation (manual block control)
- Point-to-point operation
- Small yard at each end with wye, turning loop or turntable.
- All track removeable for safe off-season storage.
- Where possible, structures removeable for safe off-season storage.
- At least one tunnel
- No point in tunnel more than 18" from outside access
"Plan F"
After several design iterations, WWGR engineers have settled on "Plan F"
as the final design. Its features include:
- accomodates trains of up to 11' in length
- 115' single-track mainline, divided into 6 blocks
- passing siding at center of mainline allows two trains to pass each other
- 4' vertical drop (115 scale feet) between highest & lowest points
- 85' turntable (36")
This design will be implemented in four phases, described below.
Phase 1
Drawing of Phase 1
- North Yard: 8' temporary reversing loop, utilizing existing track
- South Yard: 5' temporary reversing loop, utilizing existing track
- no passing siding on mainline
- temporary bridges
- no tunnel
Phase 2
Drawing of Phase 2
- North Yard: replace temporary reversing loop
with runaround track for reversing trains
- South Yard: replace temporary reversing loop
with runaround track for reversing trains
- add tunnel
Phase 3
Drawing of Phase 3
- North Yard: add final reversing loop & wooden trestle
- South Yard: add siding
- add mainline passing siding
- add final bridges
Phase 4
Drawing of Phase 4
- North Yard: add siding
- South Yard: add turntable & roundhouse
